Lazurite beads(also called "glazed beads") are symbolic handicrafts of Paiwan culture. It is like a part of a human body.
In old days, lazurite beads were very important especially in a wedding. Without them, there would be no marriage. Antique lazurite beads are not only for decoration, but also with the meaning of religion and social rank. Lazurite beads are classified into male beads and female beads. Beads must be stringed in order so that different value of each bead can be shown. The technique for making antique lazurite beads has disappeared for many generations so that antique lazurite beads become very precious now.
